Herbal Oil: Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Benefits and Uses

Lemon eucalyptus oil, the common name of one of the natural oils obtained from the lemon-scented gum eucalyptus plant, has gained popularity as an insect repellant. This use is important when you consider the dangers of DEET and other toxic solutions, and want to steer clear of them. Learn more about the benefits, composition, and proper therapeutic and practical applications of this plant oil.

What Is Lemon Eucalyptus Oil?

Lemon eucalyptus oil is extracted from the leaves and twigs of the lemon-scented gum eucalyptus plant, also known as Eucalyptus citriodora or Corymbia citriodora.
The lemon eucalyptus is a tall tree that grows up to 50 meters tall and comes from the temperate and tropical northeastern Australia.1 Its name is derived from the Latin term citriodorus meaning “lemon-scented,” and is in demand for structural timber and for honey production. It is also popular in horticulture both in and outside of Australia.
The oil – particularly p-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), its synthetic version with pesticidal properties – is used as an alternative to toxic mosquito repellents and most likely works by masking the environmental cues that mosquitoes use to locate their target.2 While the term “PMD” is often used interchangeably with lemon eucalyptus oil, know that it is different from the “pure” unrefined oil, which is typically used in making fragrances.
The refined lemon eucalyptus oil, which comprises related compounds from the plant, is known by its registered tradename “Citriodiol.” However, it also has generic names varying by area, such as oil of lemon eucalyptus oil (OLE) in the United States and PMD rich botanic oil (PMDRBO) in Europe.

Uses of Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

Usually extracted through steam distillation, the essential oil3 has a pale yellow color and a thin consistency. It smells sweet, lemony, and fresh, with a woody hint. Note, however, that this pure oil is not registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an insect repellant.
PMD or the refined version, on the other hand, has a long history of use but only recently became important as a commercial repellent in the country. For many years, it has been used in China as a product called Quwenling, meaning “effective repellent of mosquitoes.” American researchers initiated product investigation in the early 1990s and identified PMD as the active ingredient.
In 2000, the EPA registered oil of lemon eucalyptus or PMD as a “biopesticide repellent,” meaning it is derived from natural materials. The resulting products can be applied to human skin and clothing for repelling insects such as mosquitoes, biting flies, and gnats. They are formulated as a spray or a lotion.

Composition of Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

The essential oil of the lemon-scented gum mainly consists of citronellal (80 percent), produced mostly in Brazil and China.4 The refined oil’s citronellal is converted into cis- and trans-isomers of PMD, a process that naturally occurs as the leaves of the plant age. Pure PMD is synthesized for commercial production from synthetic citronellal.
Many other compounds have been identified and extracted from the lemon eucalyptus, including limonene and linalool.

Benefits of Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

Julia Lawless’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils identifies a number of health benefits of lemon eucalyptus oil, including its action against arthritis, bronchitis, catarrh, cold sores, colds, coughing, fever, flu, poor circulation, and sinusitis.
Lemon eucalyptus or PMD showed a “remarkable ability” to repel mosquitoes when compared to DEET, the most popular synthetic commercial insect repellent today. DEET has been documented to cause serious adverse effects, especially in children.
When it was tested on humans in Tanzania, PMD gave complete protection from biting for between six to 7.75 hours. Compared to DEET, there was no significant difference in efficacy and duration of protection when used against the Anopheles mosquito, the chief malaria vector in Africa. Other studies have also demonstrated its protection against the biting midge, deer tick, and the stable fly.
Burning the leaves of the lemon-scented gum eucalyptus tree has therefore been shown as a cost-effective means of household protection, alongside the use of mosquito nets, in sub-Sahara Africa.

How to Make Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

You can make a homemade mosquito repellent if you want to stay safe from DEET and other strong, toxic chemicals in most commercial repellents in the US. Lemon eucalyptus oil is considered key in making one, although you may also use citronella oil or cinnamon oil. Here is a recipe from Backpacking Spirit:5
Make your own mosquito repellent consisted of around 10% lemon eucalyptus oil. If you are using the essential (“pure”) oil, note that it does not mix with water and will therefore require a carrier oil, such as hazel, vodka, or olive oil.
Procedure:
  1. Obtain an appropriately sized bottle for travel; a 100 to 200 ml bottle will be a good choice. You may also go for a bottle that has a spritzer nozzle for easy application.
  2. Choose your carrier oil or alcohol.
  3. Use a measuring jug for more precise measurements.
  4. Think of the 10% essential oil. If you are using a 100 ml bottle, mix 90 ml of your chosen liquid and 10 ml of lemon eucalyptus oil. If you are using a 200 ml bottle, mix 180 ml of liquid and 20 ml of essential oil.
  5. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
  6. Spritz onto skin and rub in.
Tips:
  1. Store in a dark, cool place wherever possible and keep out of direct sunlight.
  2. Avoid the eye area.
  3. Re-apply after exercise, swimming, and from time to time.
  4. Get medical advice from your doctor about the best mosquito repellent for you. Be extra cautious if you are pregnant.

How Does Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Work?

Lemon eucalyptus oil is applied topically on your skin for preventing mosquito and deer tick bites, as well as for treating muscle spasms, toenail fungus (onychomycosis), and osteoarthritis and other joint pain. It is also added as an ingredient in chest rubs, relieving congestion.
Slate recommends6 this oil for repelling bugs:
“For full-on chemophobes who seek a registered product, there is lemon eucalyptus oil, which works as well as low concentrations of DEET and may last for up to six hours. For adventurous chemophobes, there is PMD, the synthetic version of lemon eucalyptus. Both are generally safe, although neither should be used on children under the age of 3 (just another example of the fact that natural doesn’t always equal benign).”

Is Lemon Eucalyptus Oil Safe?

Lemon eucalyptus oil is generally safe for most adults when applied to skin as a mosquito repellent. Note, though, that some individuals might have a skin reaction to it. On the other hand, , I strongly discourage internal applications of lemon eucalyptus oil as it is unsafe. Chest rubs for congestion contain lemon eucalyptus oil and can cause seizures and death if eaten.7
I advise pregnant and breastfeeding women to avoid using this oil, as not enough is known about the safety of using it while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Side Effects of Lemon Eucalyptus Oil

In EPA studies using laboratory animals, PMD showed no adverse effects, except for eye irritation. The technical material is categorized as an eye irritant, while the diluted end use products are estimated to be milder. Skin irritation can occur, although they rarely do. As with any herbal oil, I suggest doing a skin patch test first to check if you’re allergic to it.
As in using other plant or herbal oils, I recommend consulting a qualified natural healthcare practitioner if you are looking for therapeutic effects and benefits.

16 Superb Health Benefits Of Cucumber

Pick a handful of firm, dark green cucumbers and pop them into your shopping basket. Congratulations! You have just bought yourself a fruit (yes, the cool cuke is fruit, not a vegetable) full of good health!

Here is a short list of the impressive health benefits that a cucumber carries:
  • Keeps you hydrated. If you are too busy to drink enough water, munch on the cool cucumber, which is 96 percent water. It will cheerfully compensate!
  • Fights heat, both inside and out. Eat cucumber, and your body gets relief from heartburn. Apply cucumber on your skin, and you get relief from sunburn.
  • Flushes out toxins. All that water in cucumber acts as a virtual broom, sweeping waste products out of your system. With regular use, cucumber is known to dissolve kidney stones.
  • Lavishes you with vitamins. A B and C, which boost immunity, give you energy, and keep you radiant. Give it more power by juicing cucumber with carrot and spinach.
  • Supplies skin-friendly minerals: magnesium, potassium, silicon. That’s why cucumber-based treatments abound in spas.
  • Aids in weight loss. Enjoy cucumbers in your salads and soups. My favorite snack? Crunchy cucumber sticks with creamy low-fat yogurt dip.
  • Revives the eyes. Placing chilled slices of cucumber on the eyes is a clichéd beauty visual, but it really helps reduce under-eye bags and puffiness.
  • Cuts cancer. Cut down your risk of several cancers by including cucumber in your diet. Several studies show its cancer-fighting potential.
  • Stabilizes blood pressure. Patients of blood pressure, both high and low, often find that eating cucumber brings relief.
  • Refreshes the mouth. Cucumber juice refreshes and heals diseased gums, leaving your mouth smelling good.
  • Helps digestion. Chewing cucumber gives the jaws a good workout, and the fiber in it is great for digestion.
  • Smooths hair and nails. Silica, the wonder mineral in cucumber makes your hair and nails stronger and shinier.
  • Soothes muscle and joint pain. All those vitamins and minerals in cucumber make it a powerful enemy of muscle and joint pain.
  • Keeps kidneys in shape. Cucumber lowers uric acid levels in your system, keeping the kidneys happy.
  • Good for diabetics. Patients of diabetes can enjoy cucumber while also reaping its health benefits: cucumber contains a hormone needed by the cells of the pancreas for producing insulin.
  • Reduces cholesterol. A compound called sterols in cucumber helps reduce bad cholesterol.

9 Reasons to Eat Cucumbers

1. Protect Your Brain
Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in brain health. In addition to improving your memory and protecting your nerve cells from age-related decline,1 fisetin has been found to prevent progressive memory and learning impairments in mice with Alzheimer's disease.2
2. Reduce Your Risk of Cancer
Cucumbers contain polyphenols called lignans (pinoresinol, lariciresinol, and secoisolariciresinol), which may help to lower your risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.3 They also contain phytonutrients called cucurbitacins, which also have anti-cancer properties. According to the George Mateljan Foundation:4
"Scientists have already determined that several different signaling pathways (for example, the JAK-STAT and MAPK pathways) required for cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by activity of cucurbitacins."
3. Fight Inflammation
Cucumbers may help to "cool" the inflammatory response in your body, and animal studies suggest that cucumber extract helps reduce unwanted inflammation, in part by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes (including cyclo-oxygenase 2, or COX-2).5
4. Antioxidant Properties
Cucumbers contain numerous antioxidants, including the well-known vitamin C and beta-carotene. They also contain antioxidant flavonoids, such as quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and kaempferol,6 which provide additional benefits.
For instance, quercetin is an antioxidant that many believe prevents histamine release—making quercetin-rich foods "natural antihistamines." Kaempferol, meanwhile, may help fight cancer and lower your risk of chronic diseases including heart disease.
5. Freshen Your Breath
Placing a cucumber slice on the roof of your mouth may help to rid your mouth of odor-causing bacteria. According to the principles of Ayurveda, eating cucumbers may also help to release excess heat in your stomach, which is said to be a primary cause of bad breath.7
6. Manage Stress
Cucumbers contain multiple B vitamins, including vitamin B1, vitamin B5, and vitamin B7 (biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress.
7. Support Your Digestive Health
Cucumbers are rich in two of the most basic elements needed for healthy digestion: water and fiber. Adding cucumbers to your juice or salad can help you meet the ideal of amount of fiber your body needs — 50 grams per 1,000 calories consumed. If you struggle with acid reflux, you should know that drinking water can help suppress acute symptoms of acid reflux by temporarily raising stomach pH; it's possible that water-rich cucumbers may have a similar effect.
Cucumber skins contain insoluble fiber, which helps add bulk to your stool. This helps food to move through your digestive tract more quickly for healthy elimination.
8. Maintain a Healthy Weight
Cucumbers are very low in calories, yet they make a filling snack (one cup of sliced cucumber contains just 16 calories).8 The soluble fiber in cucumbers dissolves into a gel-like texture in your gut, helping to slow down your digestion. This helps you to feel full longer and is one reason why fiber-rich foods may help with weight control.
9. Support Heart Health
Cucumbers contain potassium, which is associated with lower blood pressure levels. A proper balance of potassium both inside and outside your cells is crucial for your body to function properly.
As an electrolyte, potassium is a positive charged ion that must maintain a certain concentration (about 30 times higher inside than outside your cells) in order to carry out its functions, which includes interacting with sodium to help control nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and heart function.

Cucumbers Make a Great Base for Vegetable Juice

There are many ways to enjoy cucumbers, such as fermented or raw in vinegar-based salads. If you're looking for something different, cucumbers make an ideal base for your vegetable juice due to their mild flavor and high water content. In fact, a simple juice of cucumber and celery is ideal for those new to juicing.
From there you can work your way up to red leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, spinach, and escarole, along with parsley and cilantro. Juicing is actually an ideal way to consume cucumbers.
When you drink fresh-made green juice, it is almost like receiving an intravenous infusion of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes because they go straight into your system without having to be broken down. When your body has an abundance of the nutrients it needs, and your pH is optimally balanced, you will feel energized and your immune system will get a boost.

My 30 Best Travel Tips

My 30 Best Travel Tips After 4 Years Traveling The World
By Matthew Karsten

My Best Tips for World Travel
Travel Tips
It’s now been 4 years since I sold everything and left the United States to travel the world. These are the best travel tips I’ve discovered along the way.
It all started when I took a one-way flight from Miami to Guatemala City, leaping nervously into the unknown and leaving much of my old life behind while embarking on an epic travel adventure around the world.
It’s been a wild ride, and I’ve learned a lot since I first left. To celebrate my 4 year “travelversary”, I’ve decided to share a collection of my best and most useful travel tips to help inspire you to make travel a priority in your life.
Feel free to share your own best travel tips at the end!

1. Patience Is Important
Don’t sweat the stuff you can’t control. Life is much too short to be angry & annoyed all the time. Did you miss your bus? No worries, there will be another one. ATMs out of money? Great! Take an unplanned road trip over to the next town and explore. Sometimes freakouts happen regardless.
Just take a deep breath and remind yourself that it could be worse.

2. Wake Up Early
Rise at sunrise to have the best attractions all to yourself while avoiding crowds. It’s also a magical time for photos due to soft diffused light, and usually easier to interact with locals. Sketchy areas are less dangerous in the morning too. Honest hardworking people wake up early; touts, scammers, and criminals sleep in.
Travel Tip: Laugh at Yourself

3. Laugh At Yourself
You will definitely look like a fool many times when traveling to new places. Rather than get embarrassed, laugh at yourself. Don’t be afraid to screw up, and don’t take life so seriously.
Once a whole bus full of Guatemalans laughed with glee when I forced our driver to stop so I could urgently pee on the side of the road. Returning to the bus and laughing with them gave me new friends for the rest of the journey.

4. Stash Extra Cash
Cash is king around the world. To cover your ass in an emergency, make sure to stash some in a few different places. I recommend at least a couple hundred dollars worth. If you lose your wallet, your card stops working, or the ATMs run out of money, you’ll be glad you did.
Some of my favorite stash spots include socks, under shoe inserts, a toiletry bag, around the frame of a backpack, even sewn behind a patch on your bag.
Travel Tip: Meet Local People

5. Meet Local People
Make it a point to avoid other travelers from time to time and start conversations with local people. Basic English is spoken widely all over the world, so it’s easier to communicate with them than you might think, especially when you combine hand gestures and body language.
Learn from those who live in the country you’re visiting. People enrich your travels more than sights do.

6. Pack A Scarf
I happen to use a shemagh, but sarongs also work great. This simple piece of cotton cloth is one of my most useful travel accessories with many different practical applications. It’s great for sun protection, a makeshift towel, carrying stuff around, an eye mask, and much more.
I can’t tell you how many times a scarf has come in handy around the world.
Travel Tip: Observe Daily Life

7. Observe Daily Life
If you really want to get a feel for the pulse of a place, I recommend spending a few hours sitting in a park or on a busy street corner by yourself just watching day to day life happen in front of you.
Slow down your thoughts and pay close attention to the details around you. The smells, the colors, human interactions, and sounds. It’s a kind of meditation — and you’ll see stuff you never noticed before.

8. Back Everything Up
When my laptop computer was stolen in Panama, having most of my important documents and photos backed up saved my ass. Keep both digital and physical copies of your passport, visas, driver’s license, birth certificate, health insurance card, serial numbers, and important phone numbers ready to go in case of an emergency.
Backup your files & photos on an external hard drive as well as online with software like Backblaze.
Travel Tip: Take Lots of Photos

9. Take Lots Of Photos
You may only see these places & meet these people once in your lifetime. Remember them forever with plenty of photos. Don’t worry about looking like a “tourist”. Are you traveling to look cool? No one cares. Great photos are the ultimate souvenir.
They don’t cost anything, they’re easy to share with others, and they don’t take up space in your luggage. Just remember once you have your shot to get out from behind the lens and enjoy the view.

10. There’s Always A Way
Nothing is impossible. If you are having trouble going somewhere or doing something, don’t give up. You just haven’t found the best solution or met the right person yet. Don’t listen to those who say it can’t be done.
Perseverance pays off. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told what I want isn’t possible, only to prove it wrong later when I don’t listen to the advice and try anyway.
Travel Tip: Smile & Say Hello

11. Smile & Say Hello
Having trouble interacting with locals? Do people seem unfriendly? Maybe it’s your body language. One of my best travel tips is to make eye contact and smile as you walk by. If they smile back, say hello in the local language too. This is a fast way to make new friends.
You can’t expect everyone to just walk around with a big stupid grin on their face. That’s your job. Usually all it takes is for you to initiate contact and they’ll open up.

12. Splurge A Bit
I’m a huge fan of budget travel, as it allows you to travel longer and actually experience more of the fascinating world we live in rather than waste your hard-earned money on stuff you don’t need. In fact you can travel many places for $50 a day with no problems.
That said, living on a shoestring gets old after a while. It’s nice (and healthy) to go over your budget occasionally. Book a few days at a nice hotel, eat out at a fancy restaurant, or spend a wild night on the town.
Travel Tip: Keep an Open Mind

13. Keep An Open Mind
Don’t judge the lifestyles of others if different from your own. Listen to opinions you don’t agree with. It’s arrogant to assume your views are correct and other people are wrong. Practice empathy and put yourself in someone else’s shoes.
Embrace different possibilities, opportunities, people, suggestions and interests. Ask questions. You don’t have to agree, but you may be surprised what you’ll learn.

14. Try Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing.org is a large online community of travelers who share their spare rooms or couches with strangers for free. If you truly want to experience a country and it’s people, staying with a local is the way to go.
There are millions of couchsurfers around the world willing to host you and provide recommendations. It’s fun and safe too. Expensive hotels are not the only option, there are all kinds of cheap travel accommodation options out there.
Travel Tip: Volunteer Occasionally

15. Volunteer Occasionally
Make it a point to volunteer some of your time for worthwhile projects when traveling. Not only is it a very rewarding experience, but you’ll often learn more about the country and its people while also making new friends.
There’s a great site called Grassroots Volunteering where you can search for highly recommended volunteer opportunities around the world.

16. Pack Ear Plugs
This should actually be #1 on the list. I love my earplugs! Muffle the sounds of crying babies, drunk Australians, barking dogs, honking horns, dormitory sex, natural gas salesmen, and more. A traveler’s best friend. These are my favorite earplugs for comfort & effectiveness.
Travel Tip: Don’t Be Afraid

17. Don’t Be Afraid
The world is not nearly as dangerous as the media makes it out to be. Keep an eye out for sketchy situations but don’t let that be the focus of your whole trip. Use common sense and you’ll be ok. Most people are friendly, trustworthy, generous, and willing to help you out.
This goes for women too. I realize I’m not a woman, but I’ve met plenty of experienced female travelers who agree.

18. Get Lost On Purpose
If you want to see the parts of town where real people live & work, you need to go visit them. The best way to do this is on foot — without knowing exactly where you’re going. Write down the name of your hotel so you can catch a taxi back if needed, then just pick a direction and start walking.
Don’t worry too much about stumbling into dangerous neighborhoods either, as locals will generally warn you before you get that far.
Travel Tip: Eat Local Food

19. Eat Local Food
Think you already know what Mexican food tastes like? You’re probably wrong. Taste a bit of everything when you travel, especially if you don’t know what it is. Ask local people for recommendations. Eat street food from vendors with big lines out front.
I’ve been very sick only twice in my travels. Don’t be scared of the food.

20. Say Yes Often
Be impulsive and say yes when someone randomly invites you to meet their family, try a new activity, or explore a place you didn’t know existed. It’s these unexpected and unplanned situations that add spice to your travels and always turn into the best stories later.
Accept the kindness of strangers when you travel — you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
Travel Tip: Slow Down

21. Slow Down
Please don’t try to cram 6 countries into 6 weeks of travel. All the good stuff happens when you really take the time to explore. You’ll learn about activities that aren’t in your guidebook and meet people who are eager to show you around.
I can honestly say that NONE of my best travel experiences happened within the first few days of arriving somewhere. Spend more time in fewer places for maximum enjoyment.

22. Keep Good Notes
My memory for details sucks. When I first started traveling the world 4 years ago, I didn’t keep a good journal, and now I’m regretting it.
Information like the names of people I met, conversations I had, feelings about a new experience, or what a particular town smelled like. If you ever want to write about your travels, these details are handy.
My Best Travel Tips
Travel Tip: Break Out of Your Comfort Zone

23. Break Out Of Your Comfort Zone
Challenge yourself to try things that normally give you anxiety. The more you do this, the more that anxiety will fade away. Not a hiker? Go on more hikes. Have trouble talking to strangers? Talk to everyone. Scared of weird food? Eat the weirdest thing you can find.
The reason this works so well while traveling is because everything is already so different, what’s one more new/uncomfortable experience?

24. Don’t Plan Too Much
I cringe when readers ask how many days they should spend in a particular country or city. The truth is I have no idea what you’ll enjoy or who you’ll meet. I thought I’d rocket through Nicaragua in a week or two, but ended up living there for 4 months.
My advice is to pick a starting point, 1 or 2 must-do activities, and an ending point (or not). Then just let the universe determine the rest.
My Best Travel Tips
Travel Tip: Pack Less Stuff

25. Pack Less Stuff
You don’t need 1/2 the gear you think you do to travel anywhere. We’ve all done it. It’s a right of passage for travelers to slowly become better at packing less. My first backpack was 70 liters packed full, my current bag is only 38 liters.
As a full-time vagabond, everything I own fits on my back. If you’re not sure about packing something, you don’t need it. It’s also possible to buy most things at your destination country if you discover you need them.

26. Listen To Podcasts
Podcasts are awesome. It’s like creating your own personal radio station and filling it with shows and music you always want to listen to. I never thought I’d actually look forward to a 10 hour bus ride. But with podcasts, it’s possible (well, as long as the seats are comfortable).
Time will fly by as you listen to incredible storytelling, fun music, or interviews with experts. Here are some of my favorites: This American Life, The Moth, RISK!, Radiolab, Smart Passive Income, and Electro-Swing.
Travel Tip: Treat Your Body Well

27. Treat Your Body Well
Travel can throw your body out of whack. When you’re moving from place to place it’s difficult to maintain a workout routine, and many of us slack off. Or we don’t sleep enough. Or we eat too many cupcakes. I’m guilty of not flossing my teeth.
Remember to be nice to your body. Get enough sleep, stay hydrated, eat healthy, use sunscreen, and exercise often (check out this bodyweight routine, no gym required!). And, yes, flossing too I guess.

28. Stay In Touch
Remember to call your family & friends from time to time. Maybe surprise them and go old-school by sending a postcard (it’s in the mail, Mom!). Travel isn’t lonely, far from it. You constantly meet other people. But many of those relationships are fleeting. So maintaining a strong connection with the people who know you best is important.
My Best Travel Tips
Travel Tip: Get Off the Beaten Path

29. Get Off The Beaten Path
I know it’s cliché, but you should still attempt it. Seek out interesting and unusual places that don’t see much tourism. Many memorable travel experiences have happened to me in areas that are not easy to visit. By all means travel to popular sites, but don’t rule out other locations just because they’re not on the tourist trail.
Although please realize that just because an area is remote or dangerous doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a life-changing experience.

30. Travel More
If there’s one thing I’ve noticed over the past 4 years, it’s that many people back home love to tell me how lucky I am while making excuses why they can’t travel. It’s too expensive. They can’t get time off work. Who will feed their pets?
When I suggest solutions to these “problems”, they still don’t take action. Why? Because they’re often hiding behind the true reason: they’re scared.   Unfortunately most people who wait to travel the world never do.
You don’t need to sell all your worldly possessions and become a homeless vagabond like me. Just get out there more than you do now. Start with a weekend in a different state. Then maybe try a week in the country next door.
The new car, remodeling project, and iPhone can wait. If you truly want to travel more, you can make it happen. Career breaks are possible. You have friends who would love to watch your pets.
It’s a big, beautiful, exciting, and fascinating world out there.

Avocado Chicken Tortilla Soup

 Chicken Avocado Soup
Ingredients & Instructions:

1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, chopped into pieces
1 Tbsp vegetable oil 1 cup chopped green onions
1 jalapeño, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
32 oz carton chicken broth
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp kosher salt or to taste
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
2 large avocados, pits removed, scooped out of the shell
1 Roma tomato, diced (or you could top with salsa) Tortilla chips, monterey jack cheese, sour cream for serving (optional)

1. Heat the oil in a large sauce pot over medium heat.
2. Add the onions, jalapeño and garlic. Saute about 2 minutes until the onion has started to soften.
3. Add in the chicken breasts, cumin, and chicken broth. Let simmer until the chicken is cooked through, 10-15 minutes (it depends on how thick the pieces of chicken were).
4. Remove the chicken from the pot, then shred it into smaller pieces when it has cooled enough to handle.
5. In a glass blender jar, puree the cilantro and 1 ½ of the avocados with a portion of the broth until creamy. Add the rest of the broth and pulse a few times to combine.
VERY IMPORTANT:REMOVE THE STOPPER FROM THE BLENDER LID AND COVER THE LID WITH A KITCHEN TOWEL AND HOLD IT DOWN FIRMLY. IF YOU LEAVE THE STOPPER IN AND THE LIQUID IS TOO HOT, PRESSURE CAN BUILD UP AND THE CONTENTS OF THE BLENDER COULD BLOW THE LID OFF AND COVER YOU AND YOUR KITCHEN IN HOT SOUP. Alternatively, if you have an immersion blender, you could blend the avocado into the broth inside the pot.
6. Season to taste with salt and pepper (I added 1/2 tsp kosher salt but add more if you use reduced-sodium broth). Add the broth back to the pot if you used a regular blender.
7. Stir in the chicken and lime juice. 8.Garnish with the remaining 1/2 of chopped avocado, tortilla chips, cheese, salsa or fresh tomato, additional chile, etc etc.

"8 ways to Prepare to Become a Millionaire"

"8 ways to Prepare to Become a Millionaire"

Written by Sam

If I were a millionaire would I still need to budget? Would I still want to track all my spending? Would I still need to negotiate with my wife about finances?

It seems logical that with an income over $1,000,000 a year you wouldn’t need to plan as vigorously. But in the end that’s a lie. Millionaires that manage their money irresponsibly can quickly lose it all and fall from grace (MC Hammer comes to mind).....

Financial management principles are the same for millionaires and low-income-earners alike. Certainly the numbers your dealing with will change, but the basic principles and processes are still the same.

In fact, by following sound financial management principles and optimizing your frame of mind, you can accelerate the process of building wealth and know how to keep it when you arrive. Here are 7 ideas that will help you think about and manage money like a millionaire, regardless of your income.

1. Be who you want to be. Earning more money amplifies who you are.

I’m going to borrow my first idea directly from my lunch partner who said “earning more money really just amplifies who you are.” While that might seem initially like a good thing, it really is a double-edged sword.

For some, becoming a millionaire leads to a life of over-indulgence and decay. We catch glimpses of this in the popular media and entertainment world; drug addiction, abuse, and infidelity. Blemishes in your character will still be there if you become wealthy. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that having more money will solve your problems. It could make them worse.

On the other hand, if you have a mindset of serving and making a postitive contribution to your family and community now, you will be able to manifest those contributions with even greater power and effectiveness when you’re rich.

By focusing on the positive contribution you want to make in your life, you will be prepared to expand and amplify your contribution as you earn more money.

2. Build your relationships. Earning more money amplifies your relationship dynamics.

Let me tell you a secret: earning more money does not solve your relationship problems. Even though my income has increased significantly over our 10 years of marriage, we still tend to argue about the exact same financial issues.

If you have bad arguments over $100, just think of the how intense they will get arguing over $10,000 or $100,000. Working out your finances as a couple isn’t about the dollars, it’s about your values.

By making all your spending and budgeting explicit, and by working as a team, you can address those values differences before they get out of control. As you become more wealthy, you’ll have a trusted, agreed-upon system in place to manage your increase.

3. Spend money consciously, but on a macro level.

Even as a millionaire you should know where every dollar is spent, but you don’t necessarily need to know line-item detail. Rather, you need to know how much is spent within broad, macro-level categories.

Millionaire’s still need to decide how many thousands of dollars they’re going to spend on the “blow” category every month in relation to other expenses. Their blow category may be able to fund a new truck while mine funds a new book, but the decision is the same.

I recently read an article at StevePavlina.com where he talked about his goal of becoming a millionaire. He mentioned that to get in the mindset of a millionaire he would carry hundreds of dollars in cash in his wallet and not fret over $100 purchases.

At first glance, it seemed that he was spending his money irresponsibly. But the fact is you can spend some of your money frivolously and still have total control over your finances. The trick is to simply decide how much you’re willing to blow in relation to the rest of your finances.

If I were a millionaire I may very well give myself and my wife $1,000 in personal money every month. That leaves a lot of room for spending money any way I want, anytime I want.

But looking at my finances as a whole, there will be some limit as to how much I’m really willing to spend this way.

4. Be generous regardless of your income.

If you want to become a millionaire, be generous now. Charitable giving seems to be a universal law that attracts abundance into your life.

Scriptures have taught this principle for ages and even T.V. shows like My Name is Earl jokingly acknowledge the effect of good karma and the golden rule.

Many people deceive themselves thinking “once I have a lot of money, I will give generously to charities,” but don’t make even small charitable contributions today. If you have a hard time giving away $10 now, what makes you think you’ll be able to easily give away $10,000 when you’re wealthy?

Upon receiving some windfall money recently, my wife and I decided to allocate a few hundred dollars to “random charitable acts.” We already donate to our church regularly but felt that we’d like to be able to give to specific people as we felt inspired to do so. We hope this will put us in a mindset of giving.

We can actively be aware of the needs around us and feel empowered to help others financially as needed.

How cool would it be to do this on a large scale? I’ve been inspired by Billion-dollar donations from Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to charitable causes and think it’s a great example of a person’s character amplified.

I recently read about someone who just decided one day to go out in public and start handing out $20 bills to random people. It seems counter-intuitive, but the stronger you grasp money, the harder it is to attract it into your life. In contrast, the more generous you are, the more it will flow into your life.

5. Provide enormous value at work (self-employed or not)

One characteristic most wealthy people I know have in common is that they are totally invested in their business. Whether they earned their wealth by starting their own business or by working for another business, they all are focused on adding enormous value.

Sometimes it’s easy to kick back and waste time when working for an employer. It’s easy to not feel personally invested. But by doing so you’re only hurting yourself. In every job there are possibilities to contribute above and beyond what’s expected.

Those who do tend to expand their influence and are promoted faster. Treat your job like it’s your own business and you’ll find a level of enthusiasm you didn’t know existed. Looking at work through the lens of business ownership, you also may just find yourself aching to start your own business. Either way, you’ll be a happier person and will find that opportunities for advancement and wealth come to you more effortlessly.

6. Plan a “millionaire lifestyle” day.

Imagine what your day-to-day life would be like as a millionaire. Would you get up and go play tennis? Or would you sleep in as late as you want? How would you interact with family and friends? Would you still work but only on projects you love?

Once you have a clear picture in mind, find a day you can take off work and do those activities. Of course, there may be restrictions on how much you can spend, but do as much as you can afford.

By actually doing what you think you’d do as a millionaire, you can take one small step towards turning your thoughts into reality.

Some people may find that they don’t really enjoy the activities as much as they thought. If the reality doesn’t live up to your expectations, re-think things and try again. If you think you’d spend your time running a business, you could use your millionaire day as a way to take massive action towards starting that business.

Don’t just do this once. Schedule a “millionaire lifestyle” day 2 or 3 times a year. Have fun and get a taste of the millionaire life.

7. Build a strong foundation and get ready for your finances to explode.

It’s easy for people to get overwhelmed by the enormity of the task of getting out of debt, paying off your house, and saving for retirement. But what most people don’t think about is that with a focused budget and a debt-reduction plan, there comes a point at which your debt and house are paid off and you’re already saving enough for a comfortable retirement. All of a sudden you’re in a position with no debt, no payments, and possibly thousands of dollars a month of disposable income. Overnight, your famine turns into a feast. That’s when life gets really fun.

While we’re still working on paying off our house, we have already started experiencing this shift. It used to be that we struggled to fund luxury categories like gifts and vacation. Bonuses and cash gifts were used to fund categories that we knew we wanted to budget for but didn’t have enough month-to-month income to fund.

Over the past couple years, we’ve been able to fully fund these categories and windfall money now goes mostly straight to debt reduction.

Soon our second mortgage will be paid off and we’ll be putting that several hundred dollars a month (our payment plus snowball) into our first mortgage. Once the first mortgage is paid off, we should have over $2,000 a month to play with. And that isn’t even taking into consideration any income increases I may have over time. $1,000 a month in personal money doesn’t sound all that far off after all. And I won’t even need to be a millionaire to get it.

8. Recognize your wealth now to attract more into your life.
If you’re reading this blog, chances are you’re more wealthy than the vast majority of the world. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that simple fact.

You are wealthy.
I recently listened to an audio program by Dr. Wayne Dyer where he mentioned that if you were to compare the population of the earth to a village of 100 people and apply the same statistics you would see that 6 of the people (all from the United States) have 59% of all the wealth of the world and that only 1 person would own a computer.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, and a place to sleep, you are better off than 75% of the world’s population.

By focusing on the wealth you already have in your life, you will attract more of it. If you only think about scarcity and what you don’t have, that’s exactly what you’ll attract. To create wealth, you have to think creatively.
Be a millionaire is a frame of mind. If you’re only after money, you’ll always want more and will never have enough.
If you’re after happiness, you can find it at any moment by changing your focus. By following these guidelines you’ll be able to experience just as much joy and satisfaction as any millionaire. “Money can’t buy me love” nor can it buy happiness.

INTRODUCTION

HUMANITY WELCOME BACK TO FINANCIAL SANITY!

You have entered a new cycle of existence as marked by the Chinese lunar calendar, otherwise known as 2015 A.D. or “The Year of the Sheep.” No longer is humanity to be economically abused, or forced to believe we owe the Central Bankers anything.

Know that all sovereign debts have all been settled by the Chinese Royal Red Dragon Family (keepers of the world’s wealth) in negotiated conjunction with 200+ Sovereign Nations of the world via international treaty.

All nations of the world have agreed to reset their currency’s value to a common gold standard value, which the Red Dragon Family has collateralized in tangible gold assets. Also, as a result of this new macro economic harmony, all fiat papered “money” is to now be redeemed, collected and burned; with new gold backed bills issued.

This exchange process is part of a Global Currency Reset (GCR) and has largely gone unnoticed by existing mass media outlets, whose owners also own the privatized Central Banking system.

They have intentionally restricted the free flow of information globally as to protect their interests; and have done a remarkable evil job of keeping this historic event out of the public consciousness. That is until now!

Some information in this historical overview might be new, some might be eye opening, while some might be shocking or illogical at first. Thus, all may accept or dismiss any claim as fact, but do contemplate all information and simply discern your own truth.

We hope this presentation activates your consciousness and serves as a reminder to your subconscious to activate your greatness.

Together, we are now entering the reality of a Global Currency Reset (GCR) & Revaluation of Currencies (RV), which is set to begin public redemptions very soon. So be encouraged, stay openhearted to the process and let’s all unify in spirit to heal our species and planet in form… humanity welcome back to financial sanity!

OLD BANKING SYSTEM

BRETTON WOODS CONFERENCE (1944)

Most are aware that planet earth has been made to exist in an unsustainable manner for centuries, both in terms of abuse of natural resources and through the use of economic mechanisms via a well entrenched fiat Central Banking System.

But no country, even the USA, can continue to print money without having tangible assets collateralizing debt. Yet this is precisely what the Central Banking System has done. In effect, they have attempted to privatize global wealth, monitoring and restricting the world’s money supply, including bonds, banking instruments, stocks, digital, paper and coin currencies.

This private global monetary control framework was introduced to the world during Bretton Woods Conference in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, June of 1944.

At this conference, NATO introduced a global monetary and military strategy that was agreed to by 44 Allied Nations in treat. “The Allies”, who won the war, declared that the United States of America was world’s liberator, and should also therefore be the world’s future military enforcer and top economic power player. All this, in compensation for winning the war for humanity.

Thus, the USA was granted the right to print the de facto global reserve currency, and called it the United States Dollar (USD), whereby all other currencies of the world would be held in par comparison to determine their own international value.

The almighty USD quickly spread as said de facto global reserve currency—replacing the British Pound Sterling—and the United States suddenly was allowed to “print” as much USD as they deemed necessary without any international oversight, except those same families who owned the Central Banking System.

Knowingly, our own US Congress secretly voted in favor of allowing a new private bank named the Federal Reserve (FED) to print the emerging nation’s physical money for our own United States Treasury. This act of treason was called the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, and the FED alone would be allowed to have full global monetary authority over rest of the world.

This “blank check” mentality that directly financed all of the current global monetary debt/insanity humanity endures today. However, also during Bretton Woods (1944), the NATO Alliance and the United States needed collateral to “put up” in order to launch their world domination plan.

So they asked the Chinese Royal Red Dragon Family, who agreed in the spirit of a greater good vision for reconstruction society in the age of the new world. It was this same Chinese Royal Red Dragon Family who had also funded the American war against the British Empire in the late 1770’s, and why to this day Americans still shoot off Chinese fireworks honoring their gifts every 4th of July.

So the Red Dragons agreed to lend their gold to the Central Bankers for a maximum fifty--year period, ending in 1996 (plus a 5 year transition or grace period, making the back wall return date September 11, 2001).

And with this benevolent act, the global Central Banking System was born, allowing all good standing sovereign nations to borrow redevelopment capital, and/or leverage through trade, in order to rebuild their war torn countries post WW2.

Now to fully understand the amount of gold loaned to the free world by the Red Dragons, one must first understand that gold has been mined across Southeast Asia for over 5,000 years. And these 26 different factions of Red Dragon Families hoard, maintain, grow and protect their assets with unparalleled commitment.

So when they agreed to lend their gold, all be it benevolently in favor of the greater good of humanity, they expected to get it back at some point in time.

So the Central Bankers began leveraging the vaulted gold assets as early as in 1946, and began reconstruction societies worldwide. This was the golden era for America… late 1940’s through the mid--1960’s. Growth and possibility seemed endless in the USA.

But sadly, ultimate power always corrupts ultimately, the central bankers decided to keep the gold for themselves, and began devising a strategy to accomplish this evil end.

So they manufactured a few wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Israel/Palestine, Lebanon Bosnia, Kuwait and Iraq. Then came 9/11, which lead humanity down its current military and financial pathway into Afghanistan, Iraq (again), Egypt, Syria, Israel/Palestine (again), Libya and finally Ukraine.

All of these wars were in directly response to giving the Red Dragons back their collateralizing assets to a rapidly defaulting Central Banking System. This discrepancy built to a head when the Red Dragons demanded payment for derivatives debts on Lehman Brothers in 2007—and insisted that their gold interest must be paid backed.

But when Lehman could not pay off the debt call, the USG declared a global financial emergency, borrowing $700B from its citizens (T.A.R.P.) in order to maintain repayment schedules negotiated by Federal Reserve Bank to the Red Dragons.

As of March 1, 2015, the FED nor the United States of American Corporation (founded in 1871) has the liquidity left to satisfy its debt repayments, and thus have have turned over the USG to White Knight Military leaders within the US Pentagon, and they now run the country’s affairs. This transition has quietly been rolling out going back to 4th quarter 2012.

So if you hear the term “Global Currency Reset” or “Revaluation of Currencies” in the future, simply understand the world is resetting back to an economic balance between sovereign nations, whereby each nation agrees to “revalue their currency” in harmony with a pre--agreed, common gold standard of value to both measure and trade wealth.

Picture
NEW BANKING SYSTEM

BRICS ALLIANCE

Now that the Red Dragons have claimed ownership of the Federal Reserve Bank and all its assets through sovereign treaty defaults, our once strong USD has lost all its worldwide credibility and value.

As a result, the Red Dragons have replaced the USD with a new global digital currency called the Treasury Reserve Note (TRN); and they have backed it with gold.

In essence, stabilizing the US economy, while at the same time replacing the old global reserve currency (USD) with a basket of new global reserve currencies, headlined by the Chinese Renimbi/Yuan (RNB/CYN) respectively.

All smaller sovereign countries, once completely dependent upon the almighty USA and FED to determine their own country’s currency value—have been released from economic bondage and allowed to revalue their currencies against a gold standard.

Meaning, long sanctioned and war torn countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Iraq and Zimbabwe are all getting new economic life, as the leaders of the old banking system give way to new, more moral leadership. Although just replacing the banking is not enough, as bad habits die--hard.

So along with a new gold back currency must also come new political leadership, approved by the BRICS Alliance, which formed after the market crash in 2007 for precisely this purpose.

BRICS is an acronym representing the nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and their economic resources united together, have replaced the United States as the world’s leading economic power, as well as the USD as the global reserve currency by which all other currencies are valued as equal.

Born out of necessity, the BRICS Alliance Redevelopment Bank was thrust into the spot light with a 100B endowment from all participating alliance members.

This new global monetary lending source has all but replaced and eliminated the need for the private Central Banking System old control mechanisms, namely the International Monetary Fund and World Bank—both of which were created during the Bretton Woods Conference circa 1944.

The new BRICS Alliance lays claim to over three billion in total population, 60% GDP and controls vital transportation, military and natural resources in several strategic locations across Asia, Africa, and South America.

The BRICS Alliance, and their growing list of allies, has gained much needed economic and military autonomy from the once dominant US, NATO and European Union collation.

But how did the BRICS Alliance accomplish such a Global Currency Reset without the whole world knowing, given the violent push back from said private Central Banking Families and their minions?

Well, first they quietly audited all global debt, and then prepared to collateralize all debts against their own gold reserves. This meant that the Red Dragon Elders had to agree to put up the physical gold to cover the entire world’s debt! Hard to believe, but none--the--less true, as that is precisely what happened.

Their leader known only as “Grandfather,” recently agreed to release the collateralizing gold reserves in greater good service to humanity. And for this humanity is eternally grateful. Thank you Grandfather!

The Red Dragon Family’s benevolent actions have allowed the BRICS Alliance to publically replace the old banking system with realistic and sustainable gold backed currency values, thus setting the stage for a new age of enlightenment.

Meaning, the Global Currency Reset (GCR) and Revaluation (RV) will create a new understanding of value across all industries, countries and cultures… and allow good standing sovereign nations to peg their own country’s monetary value on a common, permanent and consistent benchmark for thousands of years.

Yes, some currencies will naturally rise based on their in ground assets and gold holdings (ZIM, VND, IDR, IQD, TRY, MXN, PHP), while others will fall just as fast (USD, JPY, CHF, GBP, AUD, DEM, CAN).

But in the end, all sovereign nations who agree to participate within the rules of the BRICS Alliance, do so by their own accord, via international treaty, and in turn now have eliminated their sovereign debt… creating a sustainable gold backed, global economic future for us all.

Again, thank you Red Dragon Elders, and thank you Grandfather for your infinite generosity and selfless commitment to preserving and ascending the human condition. We are forever humbled and honored to be participating in such a historic planetary event.

GOLD STANDARD

OLD BENCHMARK VALUE

To understand how and why currencies historically redeem, it’s wise to first look at the base monetary value and how that standard is assigned. First, one must look at the intrinsic universal value of gold historically, and accept that gold is now, and has always been a currency.

Also, consider that all in--ground assets, including oil, gems, minerals, and precious metal are all traded like currency since the beginning of modern commerce.

Meaning, just as physical gold bullion or coins were once was traded for everyday goods like we do today with paper or digital currencies, in theory, that never stopped. In fact, the new gold standard will see individuals exchanging physical gold for actual goods and services, including transactions between governments.
This is why the world going back to the old gold benchmark is so dramatic, and why it had to become the new benchmark by which all value is measured, as opposed to Central Bank issued notes, sovereign bonds, banking instruments, derivatives, credit cards and local fiat currencies. They insurmountable debt those fiat philosophies created were crippling, irresponsible and immoral.

Thus, every monetary unit of value now has a real equity relationship to gold, with all either moving towards or away from the gold standard’s 1:1 ratio. Thus, the citizenry of the world is again playing on a level economic playing field.

However, to achieve such global harmony, all currencies must first adjust or “revalue” to an accurate and equitable gold standard. Some currencies will do so publically and immediately—and be in a “first basket of revaluations” such as the Iraq Dinar, Vietnam Dong, Zimbabwe Dollar and Indonesian Rupiah. While others will gradually and quietly transition as to not upset the masses or global money supply algorithms.

Once a currency is adjusted or is revalued, an arbitrage is created within exchangeable value or price; thus creating economic opportunity for any one whom physically holds such an adjusted sovereign debt instrument; and should they desire to redeem the currency in a bank, they can receive the difference as profit… or loss depending on which currency is held.

Now it is true some currencies will revalue up, while others will revalue down. And a few will even collapse and need to be taken out of circulation slowly like the ECB’s Euro and Federal Reserve’s USD; some are most certainly to spike much higher, like the Zimbabwe Dollar, which is scheduled to revalue as many as fifteen decimal places since 2009.

Yet in the end, most will ultimately readjust unnoticed, with a select few not adjusting at all because they never left the gold standard measurement of value.

To better illustrate how international sovereign currencies of the world will move in relation to gold’s updated value, below is a graphic that visually shows the distance a currency must travel in order to unify with the current fair market value of gold.

Lemon Eucalyptus Oil repellent
