"knowledge" puffs up

So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better. A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
Yet in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge."
This "knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up. If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. (1 Corinthians 7:38-8:3 ESV)

almost everytime this verse is quoted it disregard the context it is in
interestingly ESV translations added a "THIS" before the word knowledge
the author explicitly refers this specific "knowledge" to the context regarding food offered to idols, it is quite clear those people that has came to faith has previously partook pagan food offered to idols and is lack of faith regarding this area.
so Paul continued expounding on this issue that there is but ONE God from vs 4 to 7

Then concerning the eating of the things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one. For though there are those who are called gods, whether in Heaven or in earth (as there are many gods and many lords), but there is to us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by Him. But this knowledge is not in all. But some being aware of the idol eat as an idolatrous sacrifice until now, and their conscience being weak is defiled.  (1 Corinthians 8:4-7 MKJV)

(of cause many preacher love to use this verse loosely to apply to other knowledge wonder why a lot of christian do not read bible perhaps they do not want to puff up like what many preacher has warned them to - without knowledge you wont puff up)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.  (Hosea 4:6)
